It depends on the terms of the loan agreement. Non equity funding can leave the company vulnerable to takeover where the shareholders get nothing. It puts pressure on the company to seriously perform because loans have to be paid back. If the company is not able to pay interest on the loan or pay it out on the due date for repayment, it is goodbye company.
