In the UK despite a high death rate the average reduction in longevity was only 1 month for women ,two for men.
So instead of a male life expectancy of 84 years 3 mths for men it became 84yrs 1mth.

Meanwhile as you may have not realized suicides increased , cancers were diagnosed later in younger groups,children were educationally impaired and the economy was permanently set back with enormous debt which will cripple our children and grandchildren for decades.
This economic setback will be crippling to the productive private sector while the bureaucrats making the crippling economic decisions actually had pay increases over the last year and enjoyed office time off in their own homes.

There would have been simpler approaches firstly protecting the vulnerable members of society by keeping them isolated.

In addition a simple vit d serum level test in aged homes would have determined those most at risk of hospitalization or death from covid and vitd in large amounts quickly added.
Deficient vitd increases hospitalization rates and death by a factor of eight.
