I think it is worse than the climate change debate. As least there we have people who have actually succeeded in gaining a degree have different opinions but here we have a person with no credentials at all posing a theory that is a very long bow from the data and insisting to all the world that he is right
(well not all the world because anyone who was capable of mounting a sound argument and evidence and sifting through multiple scientific papers on connected topics would be able to show us their learned paper to other agencies or even (given their continual harping on about evidence - their completed degree in epidemiology, or even research methods - or anything really - so that we know they are a reliable and well credentialed source.)
you are right - there is nothing coming out of Italian scientists that suggests they think it actually originated in Italy. The closest is that a strain of it did so. But even then they highlight international travel as a factor. unless of course we are seeing an attempt at starting a grand conspiracy theory. Supporting China's position? Even they haven't used the Italian excuse though have reported it. Support for anything Chinese coming from the main protagonist on this thread is more humorous than you can possibly imagine
