The State and Federal governments, need to collectively realign their message to focus on virus elimination.
The population needs to be both motivated and reassured, but the logical conclusion at the moment is that the government is not even trying its utmost to eliminate this virus, but to exercise only sufficient control to allow random outbreak to follow random outbreak into the forseeable future.
That is the wrong approach. It is insipid, immoral, and corrodes public confidence. State loud and proud they, and we, are going to fight this and beat it!
The defeatism in saying well, 'but....the rest of the world will still have it, blah, mealy-mouthed, blah'.
Well, feck the rest of the world, and fix the bit you have control over!
Anyway, in what respect would we be worse off if we achieve National elimination?
Are we too timid and too much of a 'global citizen' to eliminate it here, alone, because then we'd be somehow disadvantaged, or upsetting the countries with no chance of elimination, short of vaccination - if that ever even becomes an option?
The current government posture is self-defeating and should change. The WHO says globally, the pandemic is getting worse, even with 13,000,000 already infected.
The fact spokes-people retreat, when pressed, to saying they want to eliminate it, is no substitue for declaring it as the outright goal, and harnessing our every resource to do what is necessary to achieve it.
