    I think you missed the point - it wasn't about smoking per se - it was more about having the freedoms to do so amongst so many other things. Many such freedoms have eroded or have been taken away over time.

    Drinking alcohol is another pastime that has been impacted by 'do gooders' - from memory NSW went from 0.05 to 0.02 and Victoria going further to zero tolerance - it has not so much to do with 'safety' but rather revenue collection. There are even many areas of zero alcohol zones punishable if breached. But as with cigarettes, the powers to be haven't made alcohol illegal per se but are happy to issue hefty fines if you don't do as per 'the law'.

    And don't dare to ride a bicycle anywhere without a helmet as your precious head is so important that you'll sure to get headaches due to hip pocket pain if or when pulled up by the police. Rider's heads in some European countries must be much tougher and not so important to wear helmets.

    Could go on - the list would be rather long - even longer than some side effects listed for many drugs (and of course some drugs are still in study mode re side effects). AIMO
