its not really about protecting industry though because that is just a form of inappropriate government intervention. It should really be about looking at where the future is heading and taking advantage of what was once a comparatively well educated workforce. there are lots of opportunities for the future but you have to stop thinking that our wealth lies in the ground. it lies in heads, brains, modern infrastructure at least where you place knowledge work, research and development. We are woeful at the future and not really that smart at the digging up - if we were we wouldn't have seen so many foreign companies come and buy up Australian companies, we wouldn't have thought nathan tinkler was some brilliant man; and we wouldn't give so much power to a few very wealthy people who have actually built their wealth on the toil of others and the investment of such people as you - HotCopper punters.
