I'm sure if they had their time over Winx's connections would have nominated for the Melbourne Cup but they couldn't have envisaged how this spring would pan out. A couple of soft wins in Sydney at WFA in slowly run races, followed by a stroll around Caulfield in a 3 horse field, then an 8 length demolition in the Cox Plate. Hartnell, the horse she annihilated is still Melbourne Cup favourite which tells us what we need to know about what Winx's chances in the race would be. They probably anticipated having a horse that's a bit battle scarred at this stage, but instead she's probably as fresh as a daisy....but not nominated.
