The Albanese government’s overhaul of the safeguard mechanism for big industrial polluters is expected to triple the value of carbon credits by the end of the decade, according to a leading forecaster.With Energy and Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen to tighten emissions baselines for big polluters to help Australia reach net zero by 2050, Melbourne carbon consultancy RepuTex predicted the value of Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) would grow from $30 a tonne now to between $60 and $105 a tonne by 2032.
