    West Oil is pleased to announce that at 6:00am Crackling South-1 was
    at 368.0 mRT and drilling ahead in 12-1/4" hole. Total Depth of 504
    mRT has since been reached.

    Well Name: Crackling South-1
    Date: 28 March 2003
    Permit: EP-341 Carnarvon Basin
    Well Summary: Lat 21 deg 12 min 26.11 sec South
    Long 115 deg 33 min 7.97 sec East

    Crackling South-1 is located in a water depth of 14 metres. It is
    being drilled by the Ensco 53 jackup drilling rig.

    The principal objectives are the Mardie Greensand and the Birdrong
    Sandstone.

    Proposed Total Depth: 504 mRT
    Time of Reporting: 0600hrs, WST 28/3/03
    Depth at report time: 368.0 mRT (since drilled to TD 504 mRT)

    Operations Since Last Report:

    Drilled to 259 mRT in 17-1/2" hole, ran and cemented casing, tested
    BOP's, drilled ahead in 12-1/4" hole to 368.0 mRT.

    Current Operations: Drilling ahead in 12-1/4" hole.

    Future Operations:

    Drill ahead to TD, complete planned wireline logging program.
    Hydrocarbon Indications: Hydrocarbon shows have been observed while
    drilling. The nature and significance of these shows will not be
    established until the results of the wireline logging program have
    been evaluated.

    Participants in the well:

    West Oil NL 22.5%

    (West Oil has entered into a financing arrangement the effect of
    which is that it may only realise approximately 80% of the value of
    its 22.5% interest in EP-341)

    Tap Oil Limited 50%
    Strike Oil NL 5%
    Apache Northwest Pty Ltd 22.5%

    in the meantime the market seems to like it so far with over 1 1/2 million traded after the bell
    not bad as this ann. came out after 4 pm
