That they do.

However, a lot of additional patents are submitted to dot the i's and cross the t's on existing IP... to make existing patents more watertight without being able to extend the actual patent length. They do this via divisional and continuing patent applications.

However, the Asthma/COPD patent application appears to be a stand alone patent so they are going for an extra 20 years starting from time of filing ie April 2011.

This is good.
