    Believe me, Search Warrants are not issued as fishing expeditions. Police would have named what they need and would also need to convince a Magistrate that they suspect the evidence is at his place of abode, even after all this time.

    Even the finest and most cunning criminals do not cover all their tracks in this modern era.

    There will be something there to connect him to an offence.

    It could be as simple as a Qantas Club Card, negate an Alibi, clothing worn by him, bank statements, computer, fuel cards, car parking dockets, other receipts, emails, or anything of that nature.

    In Victoria evidence consists of

    Facts

    Documents

    Testimony

    Physical Exhibits.

    My guess is one or more of the above would exist in his house today.
