Perhaps an extra royalty rate on Iron ore could be diverted to downstream processing which, over years could finance a pilot giant smelter/steel mill.
If The WA Government baulked at that then the Commonwealth could always deduct the proposed amount from WA's share of the GST and go it on a Comm level.

It seems absurd to keep saying no to China (BRI & AIIB) and exacerbate that by throwing Trump shit balls at China which has illicited an economically crippling responce for our struggling farmers and agribusinesses without a plan B and, IMO, the downstream processing of our
Iron Ore (something that China cant do without at present) would kill two birds with the one stone:
-add value to our exports, Balance of Trade & GDP
-starve China of at least 90 million tons of iron ore P/A and half that of met coals.

Just lucky we're not at war, because Scomo would idly stand by while our battalions were being knocked off one by one and no plan to regain the high ground!

What has our Government done to counter China's effective ban on our Barley, Fish, Wine etc?
Ans: Complain because China wont talk to us ....eh?

(I thought that I'd put it in war terms to appeal to all you patriotic Right Wing would-be gun toting Nationalists out there)
