Sorry depends what drones we are talking about and for what purpose ... this drone our army lost comminication with the GPS or miultiple as you have stated and is programed to self-terminate as it was flying within a restristed training area .... the drone may keep the GPS coordintes but if there is a breakdown in comms via a single sourceof control it wont matter how many stellites are avalable if you can not connect to them or have another means of communication . in this case the drone was in line of sight and if it had multiple points of connnection it could have be manual flowned back to the test site . IF it was out of sight then again they could have taken control as long as a commlink was avaliable with visaul controls. The problem is one form of communication that broke down. So no matter what the problem the solution is multiple connections from different comminications methods is the key . Not just one control method . Hence the FAA guidlines .....

Military prefer GPS at this point because...... GPS significantly enhances the targeting capabilities of military drones and accuracy. If you loose the connection hey land if they have no GPS reception and RTH is initiated. So to clarify, Even if you still have a connection with the drone and can see the camera transmission, if you lose GPS and RTH is initiated it will land not fly back to base .



Look at what the drones did during the optus outage to continuing operating ....they switch to the AI mixed and controled starlink and telstra .
