As a fisherman, I kill stuff for a living.

The Bonsai wasn’t a commitment from me, I had toyed with the idea as a cousin had a dozen or so but the Ball&Chain must of picked up on the fact that I took more than a passing glance at the uncut trees (cheapies) and told me to pick one or she would pick one for me
I did tell her, if I kill it it’s your fault as I know diddly about’em!

The point being, I don’t beat myself up about taking a living being’s life force but the caveat is that I don’t do it without thinking, I go the extra yard to reduce any unnecessary losses and I may not thank each individual for their sacrifice but I do thank them in my way.

The fun I get from these hobbies apart from the creativity is the repurposing (generally of junk), a second life for junk appeals to me just as knowing that what I catch will fill someone’s stomach and hopefully delight their tastebuds.
