When I first moved into this house and did the landscaping I was going for all natives no lawn to be low maintenance, I conceded to have a lawn in a circular area I had created in the back yard when the couch grass kept coming up, if only I had known of glyphosate (Round up) back then. But I did have a nice circle of lawn that was not hard to maintain, that went to shit when the put sewer lines in.
I put a few natives trees and plants in then it was a matter of if they survive with little water and care they where fine, some did some didn't and quite a few just appeared and flourished with not car from me..
For quite some time it worked really well having natives trees and shrubs that needed little care, in time they became over grown and where making a mess.
In hind sight I should have put in more maintenance, LOL the fruit veg garden demands much more
