I agree that it’s hard to watch but I remember when I was with mum my focus was on holding her. Hard to explain the whole experience. It’s still etched in my head though. My kids were with me as well and we all just cried and hugged each other. They’d spent most of the previous day with her along with me and my oldest read prayers for the dead and dying (he has an absolutely beautiful voice) and I sang to her. I think being there and knowing she had decided this was her time (she had given up on eating and drinking) my job was to help her be at peace with that decision. Time later to cry.
you were lucky to be there with your father. I wonder what he said to you. It will have been important to him. It sounds as though he was not at all well so it would have been hard for so many reasons.
