"The Philadelphia Navy Yard microgrid will act as a global demonstration center for microgrid excellence under an agreement signed by Alstom and Pennsylvania State University.
Alstom says that the global microgrid center will be a first-of its kind and will help advance the development of microgrid technologies, using the Navy Yard as a testing ground."

Wouldn't it be good to see this type of development in Australia?
Somewhere like Portland in Victoria for instance, where they have wind, wave and solar resources and a port.
A place that already has some energy hungry industries.

The Philadelphia project is starting from scratch by building the microgrid first. Once built, businesses will be attracted to the business hub to access the renewable energy that will be provided.
All that is required is a government with the foresight to support such a project in Australia.
Albany and Geraldton in WA are two sites that would have similar appeal, as they are both on the fringe of the grid.
