Nicholas Oros' CV is typical of a competent [but not oustanding] researcher.
A PhD is an entry level research qualification. Most PhDs work as relatively lowly paid technicians.
A PhD from a Tier 2 university and 5 years postdoctoral experience (eg Nicholas Oros) would probably qualify you for an entry level teaching position or research fellowship at a reputable Tier 2/3 university [eg Newcastle or Swinburne] or a very small tech company. It probably wouldn't get you an interview if you applied to work at Google or Harvard.
