    First thing I would do (if you asked me), is reduce the limit to a couple of thousand. Big mistake giving uni students credit cards with a high limit, not just if he loses it but they are not used to credit.

    Credit card companies love to give you more credit than you need. It also increases your minimum payment, just in case you are not going to pay it in full. Always do myself, but it is just another "catch". It is how they make money.

    Recently heard an interview by an author from the US, who had written a book called "Credit Card Nation". The CC companies were trolling peoples' statements looking for changes in spending patterns of people who always paid their bills in full. Looking for signs like buying 4 retreads instead of 4 new tyres. Then they put up their interest rates, just incase they couldn't pay their bills in full, as they had in the past. Scary.
