    I "bought" something three times in America quite a few years back now, all around the $30 to $40 each. I didn't notice till the third time and went to the bank. They paid me back because, they said, they do so for three times but not after that. The MO of the crooks was that they'd rip off thousands of customers around the world for small sums at a time so that the owner of the card wouldn't notice. I check my balances obsessively ever since and always wonder whether I should not change my card every now and then.
    The interesting thing the bank said at the time is that just because you cancel a card it doesn't mean that you're not liable for future purchases! I don't know whether that's still the case but it's got me quite paranoid.
