I do not think that BHP SP will ever be $8.00. But I think fall in LSE and NYSE is going to drag the BHP down today, by how much is anybody`s guess.
Since RIO ended it`s progressive dividend policy, now it is 100% that BHP is going to give up the progressive dividend and that scenario is already factored into the SP long time ago.
Oil seems to have hold up overnight in overseas markets, we will have some respite from oil but IO will be another matter during the coming days. IO price will go down during this period after Chinese new year.
So I do not see today is the bottom day to pick up a new parcel of BHP
