in a command economy,a farmer would be required to supply a set amount of produce to the state as his economic rent [rates]then he would be free to sell surplus above this to fund the business and living expensis.
food was cheap in command economies, you just had to queue for a long time,and accept small portions.
you would be surprised at the number of people that would find this system comforting.as long as no-one has more than they get.
