The graphed data is published by ASIC whereas the data in the table is published by the ASX. The ASX data only includes short positions opened (and not closed out), so it is mot possible to work out the net-shorts for the day. In addition, the ASX data only includes total issued capital from the ASX - so a simple division of ASX+ChiX shorts / ASX issued capital doesn't add up. Also it is possible for traders to open and close short positions multiple times on the same day - and as the ASX data only includes opened shorts it is possible that more than 100% of the stock can be shorted on one day. Therefore the ASX data is only useful as an indication of activity, but not useful for an understanding of the net amount of short positions open at the end of the day, for this, only the graphed ASIC data is useful.
