After scoring 434 Australia went out with the attitude that they only had to go through the motions to win.
When push came to shove Australia was choking. Choking badly.
A schoolboy could have caught Gibbs on 130. You don't get any simpler. Bracken fumbled and dropped it. Then next ball there was a simple misfield giving another run away.
The bowling was not of international standard. consistently too short and or wide letting the batsmen get under the ball and have a free swing.
Australia will not win the World Cup with a second rate bowling attack. Where were Australia's best available bowlers - Kasporowicz and Gillespie?
Where was Hogg who is very difficult to get away in the one day game?
Why was Lewis, who had bowled 7 overs for 72 runs given the ball for overs 45, 47 and 49?
Why was Lee only given eight overs? In addition why didn't Lee bowl an occasional slower ball?
Why were so many overs bowled by Symonds and the pup Clark - talk about making it easy.
This loss will go down as one of the most inept defences of a target in the history of the 50 overs game.
It's not only some players who should be under pressure. So should the selectors who have lost the plot, like the attempted justification for dropping Hodge from the test touring party.
Obviously starting off his test career with an average of 58 was not good enough!
