I personally don't buy into it, but I have close friends and family who do. Assuming you're religious, there is some real interesting stuff coming out of the hallelujah-Jesus-Fundamentalist Christian movement at the moment regarding Armageddon-style, the End of Days, and the rise of the wicked beast / anti Christ.
Makes for an amusing read for me, but would make a believer very scared indeed.
Of course the world will end in 2012 anyhow so we needn't worry :)
