Relating Australia and the past future is somewhat difficult to do from a current perspective .

We are in fact evolving along lines similar to large Continental countries by the breakup of our state borders !

We are isolated to having another country share a land mass border for a start. But its not say into the future some event will form these borders into their own countries or autonomous states.

Then an event may bring similar occurrence to the Crimean situation within those countries.

The Brisbane line is possibly also an example where borders were being planned to change in our current life time for many of us .

Hypothetically if a truce was drawn up after this line had been bought into place we could be part of split continent!
