That is one that I sort of thought about. Its a relatively dangerous job with explosives and heavy equipment, like working in a lab in some ways, where something could go bang, sizzle or crash suddenly IMO, you have all of your safety training and safety gear around, but things still go wrong at times. Compared to a lab however the surprises at a mine will be more likely to be due to "natural" elements, whereas a lab will usually be more human error.

Well you would hope that a full investigation is done, and if somebody were to be at fault or negligent it would be recognised. Even if so, I doubt that compensation would be material as the business would most likely be insured, and it might feed back into people not wanting to work at those mines or for MYE.
