I saw the studio deals and the fact HBO has a stake, but don't think it means much IMO. Just look at the movie options on their site and you realise the studios haven't given up on the good old days yet.

It took the music record labels a long, long time to finally embrace downloadable music even though the were selling it online well before that time. Eventually they came to the realisation that the decision was not between physical media and digital, it was a decision between paid downloads (and collecting something) or pirated downloads (and collecting nothing). They simply lost the physical media option. Its pretty clear the music industry has now embraced digital downloads and realised the good old days just aren't possible.

Obviously the movie industry is nowhere near that stage yet, but IMO its inevitable.

I just can't see that in a few years time we will have a situation where each country has a couple of streaming providers each with their own studio deals.
