It seems man's idea of peace is coupled of blowing everything to pieces. As to evolving technologies, the recent events in 'blue screens' appearing shows the vulnerability of such technological reliance.
Yes it's likely that Hitler would have deployed atomic bombs had he had the chance to but alas, such deployment occurred regardless by the 'good guys'.
Find it absolutely astonishing that there is a so called 'Treaty of the non proliferation of nuclear weapons' (NPT) and yet a number of countries have such weapons even as some countries are adversaries - like India and Pakistan - yet they worry about Iran??
And then how many countries are not signed on to such treaty?
So just how many weapons are worldwide ready to be deployed in a non prolific way - guess dropping them is one way to dismantle such weapons.
