It's been dry in northern NSW since Jan 1. Below average rainfall all year. I got 40 inches last year, and probably only had half our average this year, so maybe 5 to 7 inches, depending on region.
Summer crops suffered from the dry finish, however yields were not too bad, maybe average, but it was a shame the wet start turned bad at the end.
Winter fallows are full from the wet 2010, however summer fallows are dry. The full winter fallows are likely to go to summer crop, so the winter crop sowings here might be small unless rain falls soon.
Global grain markets are on a knife edge eh? Massive drought in Europe and else where. Anything could happen from here, and an exciting time to be a grain grower.
Cheers.
