They don't necessarily go hand in hand. The "dilution" is only a negative to existing shareholders if they do not take up their entitlement and have their share of the company reduced. Our major companies, where they regularly do SPPs, have billions of shares on issue, but, nearly all of those SPPs are swamped and there is little if any negative dilution.
LKE is simply not in that category, it's a piddling, penny, speccy, with a share register dominated by ST punters.
The problem with LKE is that they rarely get anywhere near full support from their shareholders, management knows that, so to avoid the expense and time required to prepare Prospectuses and make ASX announcements and then waiting 6-8 weeks to know how much they have raised, they, very understandably, use Placements to SIs, and with that cash safely locked away, they might then make an equivalent offer to shareholders just to keep the loyal ones happy.
But, punters should not expect any SPPs in the foreseeable future and be resigned to the fact that the best case scenario, apart from"an out of the blue offer", is for further Placements. That "out of the blue offer" is the elephant in the room that could raise its head at ANY time (from now on).
