A woman charged over the fatal bashing of her eight-year-old daughter with a vacuum cleaner pole has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the Cairns Magistrates Court in far north Queensland.
A murder charge against the 28-year-old was downgraded after she admitted in court today to manslaughter and two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm while armed.
The woman's daughter was found dead in the Cairns suburb of Westcourt in 2011.
It is alleged the girl's mother beat her with a steel pole from a vacuum cleaner over a period of 12 months.
The woman did not enter a plea for one charge of torture.
