Sun Princess Freo to Sydney. We got in the same night as the il-fated Ruby Princess.

In the end, the cruise was cut short by 2 days...initially we were told to conform with the start time of Princess’ self-imposed 60 day shutdown. Then they had a change of heart, and said the cruise would continue on its initial schedule. However, after Tasmania shut its borders to cruise ships, Princess decided to re-commit to getting back to Sydney on the 19th of March (instead of the original 21st March). We missed out on calls to Burnie and Melbourne.

Compensation was pretty good, considering we only missed a couple of days from an 11 day cruise. 50% off our next cruise and 25% of a subsequent cruise.

We got into White Bay cruise ship terminal around midnight, but did not start to disembark until around 7.30am. Looking at marinetraffic.com later in the day, the ship headed back out to sea empty. We were allowed to disembark without sighting anyone shoreside from NSW Health (certainly didn’t get a temperature check before we were allowed to disembark!). Quite surprised at the time that we saw no officials / health workers. More so now, given the Ruby Princess debacle. Maybe they didn’t bother with our cruise because it was entirely domestic, and judged low risk (I’m guessing here).

A week after we got back, we saw some reports of one of the passengers on our cruise testing positive for CV19, but I believe this was about a week after disembarking. So they might have had it on the cruise, or caught it afterwards - who would know. Got an email soon after from Princess advising us to self-isolate until 2 April, which, of course, we complied with. No symptoms, and haven’t seen any other reports of problems with our cruise.
