I used to think the same until I researched further and found quite the opposite. Real life problems that crypto is addressing off the top of my head:
1. Vechain (VET) using their logistics block chain to track and clean rubbish around Indonesia's seas. Source:

You get paid to watch advertisements according to your interests that the algorithm detects for you. Win/win situation and the advertising fees are lower than being paid to Google. So you get paid and it is cheaper for the companies to advertise.
3. Theta coin that allows decentralized video watching and sharing allowing making videos more accessible to people who are more likely to be interested in it.
4. XRP, Polygon and Cardano providing faster and secure and cheap payments between individuals with minimum fees across borders without regulation. Westen Union's fees are bloody ridiculous and will be a thing of the past soon.
5. Earn money by storing broken up data from all around the world with Storj coin.
6. Decentralised finance (Difi). Earn 10% on your Aussie dollar rather than getting nothing from a traditional bank. Get cheap loans and earn proper interest.
This is just the top of my head. So many projects and so much energy in this space right now. I never invest where there are no fundamentals, but Cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies have an endless amount.
Cheers,
