I think it's one of their likely potential pathways from here, depending on what result the user research comes back with. A recent CEO interview said they had hired a research company to help them work out which feature releases are most in demand or beneficial from here.
They'd have endless suggestions from the support system and social media, and they could do something simple like a survey, but I guess they see some advantage in the hired research.
