Nuclear isn't an option for a number of reasons.
Mature fully depreciated baseload coal can't compete with renewables in 2024.
Baseload nuclear requires an operating time of 90% and a operating life of over 40 years and still comes out at multiples of teh cost of renewables. Baseload nuclear is the cheaper of the nuclear options.
Baseload coal in Australia is struggling down at around 60% .
So nuclear couldn't make money from the start .
Then there's the build time.
All our coal fired power will be shutdown over the next 11 years. A nuclear plant wouldn't be available till at least 10 years after that at best.
Renewables are progressively filling the gap today. They are getting cheaper today. Energy storage technology is being rolled out today.
There is simply no alternative today.
