Yes it strange how often scientists get their modelling and predictions wrong though. A point to note is that we're near/at a solar minimum at the moment, and solar activity has been 'quiet' for the last few years. Despite this though, the world is still experiencing record-high average and peak temperatures...

Solar activity has 'some' effect on global temperatures, but it looks like the jury is out one just how big that effect actually is. It's hard for scientists to look back in history and try to pinpoint previous solar activity and how it changed global climates (if at all).
It is, however far easier to study and track historic CO2 levels vs temperature trends and there is a strong correlation there. I'm going to steal @baldynumbers chart that they posted previously to underline this.
There have always been natural cycles and there always will be. There's no doubt at all though that human kind has contributed a large amount of 'extra' CO2 over the past couple of centuries though. I don't believe in the whole doomsday predictions that some of the Lefties are preaching - Humankind will certainly adapt and evolve to meet the climate challenges of the future. It is likely though that many lives and livelihoods will be lost along the way.
While I do understand the whole climate-change discussion, I prefer to look at energy tech from the perspective of progress and efficiency. The new technology that is currently evolving will (it's already starting to) prove itself as a cheaper, more reliable and efficient solution to our energy needs than the old tech.
It will still require mining, still require resources, but overall it will be relatively low maintenance and better for all involved (including the environment) over its life cycle.
I mentioned earlier and I'll repeat it here; battery tech is the main thing challenging the transition at the moment. We need the governments and grid providers to quickly wake up and realise that Lithium batteries are NOT the solution for BESS. There are already better technologies out there (flow-batteries), which will also prove to be cheaper once economies of scale ramp up.
This was just announced the other day too.. Aussie invented and proven ability to upscale. Non-flammable and fully recyclable.
