In addition to the development of BIT225, Biotron has a portfolio of preclinical antiviral programs developing drugs targeting a range of significant established and emerging viral diseases such as Dengue, Zika and Influenza virus.
Viroporins are encoded by many viruses and are essential for pH-dependent viral uncoating and/or assembly of infectious virus. Their role in viral pathogenesis supports their essential role in the virus life cycle, making viroporins ideal targets for therapeutic intervention.
Biotron’s unique approach to designing, screening, and developing small molecules that work against viroporin proteins enables the targeting of a wide range of viral disease; examples include:
- Influenza (in particular resistant strains)
- Dengue virus
- Zika Virus
- Ebola and SARs
Clinical studies with BIT225 have demonstrated the robustness of Biotron’s approach providing strong validation of safety & efficacy of targeting viroporins.
Biotron and CSIRO are the perfect partnership for trial moving forward IMO. If you were going to make a movie and you wanted to get a great soundtrack who would you go to. Who is going to put strings in your bow? John Williams who did countless amounts of movies that were a great success. So who do you go too if you want to make what is going to be a massive financial gamble aswell, you go to someone that has already had success with Covid-19 and reduced levels by 90-to 100% of infected cell cultures. Where else would you go if you were the CSIRO?
ASX ANN 6/2/2020
Within its proprietary small molecule compound library Biotron has over 30 compounds with good activity against
a range of coronaviruses, including human coronaviruses that cause mild, cold-like symptoms as well as the SARS
coronavirus that was responsible for the outbreak of that virus in 2003. These compounds can reduce the levels of
coronavirus by 90 - 100% in infected cell cultures. Importantly, several compounds have broad-spectrum activity against multiple strains of coronaviruses.
Putting it all together for me. I could well be wrong but thats what research is all about. Coming to a conclusion at the end of it. Hopefully there will be a ANN soon and we can all be rest assured by MM.
