The following paragraph is a little troubling however...
"The South Australian Parliament had a bill tabled last week that exempted the Mt Isa to the South Pipeline and the Northern Territory Pipeline from the Vertigan reforms which has the purpose or effect of economically inhibiting new supplies from the Northern Territory. These supplies would help to address the national energy crisis.
South Australia by this act of its own parliament has erected a tariff barrier to prevent gas to its industries in its hour of need.
As an operator of the only onshore producing gas fields in the Northern Territory, a third of Central Petroleum’s workforce is local indigenous, a third local non-indigenous and a third FIFO. Until the South Australian act was tabled, we were planning on tripling production from our existing fields through appraisal work which would lead to more local employment. Because the concept of back haul was to be introduced under the Vertigan on an “actual costs plus reasonable returns” basis this production was destined for the domestic consumer, this Vertigan recommendation would have closed the 25 per cent extra tariff payable to get gas to Moomba compared to the tariffs advised to Central by the Southern route proponents."
Would appreciate thoughts...
