Fees ? Umm ! Loan fees. Broker fees. Dividend Fees. Cost of overnight carry fees... You are correct though. Borrowing costs have increased and increased on average by around 5X over the last 10 years. The fees however are often scaled. Like a property loan. More equity. More negotiation power. Less fees. But good luck getting straight answer without a sit down 1:1 with your broker. What is for sure though is that the lower the MC the higher the costs. The lower the liquidity. The higher the cost. If outside the ASX 200 the higher the costs. In fact the further down the index list the higher the costs can be. In fact the costs are so high on some stocks that there is argument to support a premise that if not for the high costs of fees and charges incurred by the market makers and arbitrage traders on some low MC and semi-illiquid stocks that the trading SP for the same said stocks would in fact be significantly lower than it is. From a pure fees and charges perspective though for some (not me) CFD's can very attractive and fee friendly if arbitrage trading or scalping a quasi long and short spread. On positions short though ASIC already have most the data and some of it when published can be broken down and extrapolated or guesstimated to help provide insight into the scale of market maker influence. Perhaps maybe in part because of GME, because short sellers are a hated minority, the system however is structured to focus largely on headline grabbing Gross figures such that paranoia and ignorance perhaps in part help ensure the curtain of full disclosure and transparency is not fully pulled back. ASIC regulatory guide 196 throws some additional light on this if keen for a read. Anyway. Trade safe. Heading out. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
