I tried to work out the pretty picture WedC, but i was thrown out by the vertical axis (LHS in millions, RHS in thousands and not aligned ie LHS zero doesn't match RHS zero), plus unsure what the 'differentials' relate to, I'm sure it would be easy for a more intelligent being .
However I will make
the following general observations which are pro
bably arguable:
1. Absolutely, the gross short sales don't correlate well with the net shorts for any given day, and I've not seen any day where gross shorts = net shorts.
2. In general as gross shorts increase there is more likely to be an increase in net shorts - but a review of a one day price volume chart can often provide a guide as to how significant the increase or decrease in net position will be by checking the amount of red vs green 'spikes' in volume through the course of the day - its not unusual to see the red volume 'spikes' sometimes followed by a similar green volume 'spike' which i assume counter-acts the price momentum impact of the red volume 'spike'.
Note: I'm not a day trader whatsoever, but in the case of Clarity because of my relatively largish position I want to establish how the shorts are behaving before I decide to buy a few more shares.
3. For the moment the highest Net Shorts for Clarity stands at 13,481,027 = 4.20%, on March 7 - the Friday trading prior to the rebalance announcement that same day. This of course could be added to in coming weeks, but maybe that also depends on the likelihood of Clarity making interim results announcements, vs general market negativity.
If you look at the latest gross short sales there was an increase on 7 March, and it had been lessening each subsequent day, until 18 March when all of a sudden gross shorts picked up again!
Based on the daily chart for the last 5 days up until 19th March my view is that gross shorts won't result in a large net position (for these days) but we won't know that for sure for 4 days unfortunately.
Currently Clarity is the 59th most shorted stocks at 3.77%.
(Apologies for the Files I inserted over-riding the commentary - its not ideal to upload via my phone, but hopefully you get my drift).
