Not necessarily, the latest Short Report is for a few days earlier (last information is for the 16th April trading). That chart attached above is Gross Shorts, which doesn't necessarily translate to Net Short Position. But certainly the prior days Gross Shorts did result in a high conversion to Net Shorts at end of day.
Why the difference you might ask - IMO its all about trying to break any upside momentum through the trading session, but closed out later in the session to ensure there's no additional exposure.
If you look at the last days trade whilst there's the odd dump and resultant slight price fall overall the buyers had control, thus my feeling is that it will be less likely that the Net Shorts will have increased in the last day. And similarly for the previous day - in fact its possible that Shorts in aggregation may have reduced the last couple trading sessions. We won't know for sure for a few more days unfortunately.
