Worth a read for those who may not have been following the Cudeco story closely over the past decade!
It is difficult to know what to classify CuDeCo as; mine, scam, carpet-bagger's dream, egotistical mid-life crisis vehicle for the ex-Chairman, peculiar culturally-appropriate trope of Queensland-style mining company?
This story has it all, from Baby John Burgess infomercials, Instagram style company photojournalist glam shots, video updates from chambray shirt-wearing blokesy (ex)Chairman Wayne McRae where shiny new mining kit drives around the bush making dust and digging ore, encyclopedic stock market releases which over-share like a clingy girlfriend, blustery and half-deranged proclamations about how the "suits" are conspiring to bring the company down, you name it, CuDeCo had it. What it didn't have was enough copper.
Strap in for a wild ride through the history of Australia's most forgettable mining disaster since that other one we'd rather not remember, and certainly won't learn from!
