I wonder with all the sophisticated electronic guidance systems on aircraft and on the ground at airports whether crews come to rely too heavily upon them at the expense of getting enough experience with hands-on flying of their aircraft. How many times have crews failed to notice with disastrous consequences what you would think as basic flying parameters - airspeed and altitude? The guy in the video mentions the Schiphol accident, there was also the time when two pilots were screwing around with a simple indicator light on approach and failed to notice they were nearly hitting the ground, alas too late.... is it so hard to train pilots to never lose sight of altitude and airspeed?
