it is a cultural thing but Koreans do not work well cooperatively. If someone is making a mistake others are reluctant to point this out, not wanting the other to lose face. A junior officer is highly unlikely to correct a senior one.
This caused a crash and total loss of life once before when the captain was using a faulty flight instrument and flew into the scenery. The co-pilot would have known because his instrument was right, but never said "Sir! My aircraft" and corrected the aircraft attitude. He sat like a deer in the headlights and died. [Ain't "black boxes" wonderful things?]
