If you have a source for that I'd be interested to read it. I may have gotten a bit excited and gone off the memory of seeing this slide somewhere - forgetting Benchmark specialise is trapping lithium baggies like myself.
But using your figure; if you can shave $400 off that input cost by using the AISC (owning the supply chain) instead of market price, and you sell 250,000 EVs per year you'd be looking at $100 million per year extra money in your car company pocket. Maybe not enough to justify spending $700 million on a mine and hydroxide plant.
But if you were VW or any of the top 8 or so car makers you are hoping to be selling double that within 4 years at a minimum. In the case of VW and Renault orGM probably 4 times that.
Now it's starting to look pretty good..... I hope.
