For the record (and IMHO) - they're drilling to show potential suitors the quality of the prize, and yes, to fill in time while waiting for demand.
Waiting for demand also explains the timetable on finance.
It's a lot simpler than a grand conspiracy to unite one excellent resource with a much smaller one. See Occam's razor.
We have current gold income to put off the kinds of frequent and highly dilutionary cap raises similar (cough-cough ) companies will face while waiting for a deal. Maybe we'll have another in six months, maybe not...but if so it won't be for too much given the income we have this year with gold price being solid.
