@madamswer ...OK Thankyou for providing an example. I'm sure you could pick it to pieces easily as to why it wouldn't work by yourself, so there's no need to go into it.

Basically a targeted approach of any type will take too long to set up. Did you look at the brief talk by Dr Ryan, it gives the exact reason why a targeted approach has not happened anywhere in the world. Also there are many assumptions that need to be made without the required information, so will likely be costly (as in lives). I don't think any politician would sign up to a specific strategy that targeted certain groups that had a chance of failure, too much political downside for them. Much easier to follow overseas action as the best possible, which seems to be what is happening.

So far country after country has tried the go slow and see, followed by the tougher lockdowns (except for those that went hard and early, that look to be coping).

I think we are currently in light lockdown, with more to come depending on where the numbers land. Unfortunately that has been the politicians thinking, look at the numbers to decide what to do, not look at the trend and extrapolate for 3 weeks ahead, which is what we need in a pandemic.

Any strategy will take time to implement, for example the quarantine of people coming in from overseas, was possibly being worked upon for a week or longer. It was interesting how the state govt here in Victoria was stating Crown Casino was OK one day, but not the next. I wondered at the time what type of 'deal' had been worked out between the 2 parties. Sure enough the following week, the Crown Hotel has become one of the first places where people are going into quarantine. I don't believe in coincidences.
