Looks like Loy Yang are still persisting with the carbon capture technology

Post combustion capture
feasibility begins

A pre-feasibility study into a
large scale demonstration project
for post combustion carbon capture
(PCC) has begun.
The joint project between Loy
Yang Power and TRUenergy with
WorleyParsons and Mitsubishi
Heavy Industries was awarded $2
million in Federal and State
Government funding through the
CarbonNet program.
The 28 week study will deliver a
detailed report on the viability of
developing a PCC plant as a retrofit
option on one of the existing Power
Station generating units to capture
carbon dioxide.
The study is being undertaken
by a team of 20 engineers and
scientists from Mitsubishi and
WorleyParsons, both in Japan and
Australia. Flue gas testing has
commenced on Unit Four with
support from LYP‟s Environment
and Scientific Services team.
The work will include developing
a design for the plant, conducting
environmental studies, engineering
analysis, developing implementation
plans and cost estimations and will
be coordinated through the power
station integration team of Neil
Fitzclarence and David Hibbert.
Testing and analysis of LYP flue
gases will provide critical
information to help determine what
type of plant design is required.
Carbon capture and storage is
an important emissions reduction
technology option. The prefeasibility
study for a large scale
demonstration PCC project is the
only one of its kind being
undertaken in Australia with support
from state and federal government.
