It's not to close down these power stations, it's to try to ensure that we use technology better to reduce the emissions,'' Mr Abbott said yesterday as he prepared to visit the Hazelwood brown coal plant.
In a separate interview, he said: ''I don't want Hazelwood to close. I'd like it to be cleaner and emit less but the bottom line is I don't want it to close ? brown coal has been the key to affordable, plentiful power.
